SDI Engineering Inc. was founded in 1994 in the greater Seattle area by Dr. Bob Stirling. The company’s initial focus was in Dr. Stirling’s specialist areas in aeronautics including aeroelastics, loads and dynamics, and aircraft control systems. SDI received initial R&D funding through the US government’s SBIR/STTR program, and was later able to leverage and apply the skills and background required from this program to related areas in the commercial market.

SDI has since become established as a professional, specialist provider of R&D, engineering services, and software tools in various technical disciplines. The company employs highly qualified engineers, many with niche skills and advanced degrees, along with multiple outside specialist consultants and DERs. SDI has also developed proprietary software tools in various analytical areas including flight and ground loads, aerial refueling, aeroelastics/aeroservoelastics, landing gear, flight control systems, actuation systems, hydraulics and propulsion.

SDI has teamed with several integrated company partners to provide support to a global client base across a range capabilities, applications and industries. The company’s close business relationships with these partners allow SDI to provide a greater range of services and offer an established and larger technical team when required. Our services are typically provided directly from our office located in Bellevue, Washington, but can also be supported onsite at the customer when necessary.
